A leader who built itbefore she taught it.

It started with cassette tapes.

Melanie's love of leadership began around age eleven, when her grandfather — “Papa,” a Southern Baptist preacher — handed her cassette tapes of Zig Ziglar, Jim Rohn, Les Brown, and John Maxwell. She led all the way through school and college: class president, pledge class president, drill team captain — never for the spotlight, always to pull her team forward together.

In 2012 she flew to West Palm Beach to hear John Maxwell speak to a small room of about two hundred people — and came home a certified John Maxwell coach. She brought the facilitator guides back to her physical therapy practice and started voluntary 7am Thursday leadership meetings, off the clock, open to anyone who wanted to grow. Several of those early attendees now run their own businesses or hold top leadership roles.

For 31 years she has grown Melanie Massey Physical Therapy from a single room with one employee into five clinics and a team of more than one hundred — learning leadership the way it sticks: in the trenches of building something real. Today, through MoCo Leadership, she helps growth-minded leaders and teams thrive through strengths-based coaching, workshops, masterminds, and retreats at her Mojoy Studio in West Monroe, Louisiana.
